Personal photo: a small silver aluminum carabiner clipped to a belt loop of dark jeans, with a set of keys hanging from it against the denim fabric.

The carabiner on my keys is not a climbing-rated 1, just a $2 aluminum clip from a hardware store. It's the best thing I've added to my daily carry in years. Clipping my keys to a belt loop means I never lose them in a bag. The click sound when I attach them has become a small habit I don't think about anymore. Borrowed from mountaineering but scaled down to something almost decorative, the object carries the memory of its original purpose even in a context where no one is hanging off a cliff.
