Carhartt WIP took the original Carhartt chore coat silhouette, a boxy canvas jacket with a corduroy collar and blanket lining, and refined it for a fashion context without losing the construction quality that workwear demands. Canvas is lighter than the mainline Carhartt version, which makes it wearable over a hoodie without looking bulky, and the fit is slightly tapered through the body. I want 1 because the jacket occupies a space between casual and structured that's hard to find in outerwear at this price point, around $250. Heritage is real since Carhartt has been making workwear since 1889, and the WIP line borrows credibility from that history while targeting a different customer. Practical pocket layout: 2 chest pockets and 2 lower pockets with button flaps that actually close. A snap closure down the front lets you adjust ventilation without a zipper. Over time the fabric develops a fade pattern unique to how you wear it, lighter at the elbows and collar where friction is highest. Aging process turns the jacket into a record of use.
