#365 of 420USB-C Universal Charging
Press shot: A single USB-C cable coiled next to four different devices (laptop, phone, earbuds case, tablet) all showing USB-C ports, on a clean desk surface.
Shifting to USB-C across all my devices happened gradually and now I carry 1 cable instead of 4. Progress that should have happened a decade ago. My laptop, phone, earbuds, and tablet all charge from the same connector, and the cable supports data transfer and video output through the same port. EU regulation requiring USB-C on all new devices starting in 2024 pushed most manufacturers to comply early, and even the holdouts are switching over. Reversible by design, the connector has no wrong way to plug it in, which seems minor until you remember fumbling with Micro-USB in the dark. I appreciate the standardization because it means I can borrow a charger from basically anyone, and the universal compatibility makes travel packing simpler. Cheap USB-C cables vary wildly in quality and a bad cable can deliver incorrect voltage to a device, which is the only real downside.
