On 2nd Ave, a microapartment concept building uses 300-square-foot units with ceiling heights of 10 feet. Vertical space changes everything about how small the footprint feels. The kitchen is a single wall: counter, sink, 2-burner stove, and an under-counter fridge, all within arm's reach. A sliding barn door on the bathroom saves the 8 square feet a swinging door would eat. Storage is built into the walls with cubbies above the bed and a closet rod recessed into an alcove. It works because the floor-to-ceiling windows on one wall, letting natural light reach the back of the apartment. A dark 300-square-foot room would feel like a closet. This one reads as a deliberate choice rather than a compromise.
