Lululemon figured out that leggings aren't just workout clothes. They are the default pants for an entire generation of college students. Align leggings are the pair everyone measures others against. Nulu fabric feels like wearing nothing, which is a strange thing to say about pants. But the material is so thin and soft that I genuinely forget I have them on until I look down. The waistband sits flat without rolling or digging in. That's the most common complaint I have with every other brand. Lululemon solved it by making the waistband from the same fabric as the rest of the legging rather than adding a separate elastic band. At $98, the price tag is hard to justify rationally. But the feeling of putting them on versus a $30 pair from Target is immediately obvious. Sensory difference keeps people paying the premium. I wear mine to class, to the gym, and to dinner without changing. The fact that they look appropriate in all 3 settings makes them the most versatile item in my closet. With 3 pairs in different shades, each coordinating with different tops, Lululemon effectively became my default wardrobe base. Durability is the real test. After 8 months of heavy rotation and weekly washes, they still look new. Cheaper pairs I bought at the same time have started pilling at the inner thighs. Being part of a campus where these are everywhere creates a shared reference point for what good athletic wear feels like. That collective standard raises expectations for everything else.
