#117 of 420Apple AirPods Pro
Editorial: Apple AirPods Pro in their open charging case, photographed on a desk next to an iPhone and a laptop, with the silicone ear tips visible.
Apple got the AirPods Pro right on the 2nd generation by fixing the fit issues that made the originals fall out of half the ears on campus. Silicone tips in 4 sizes mean these actually seal properly for noise cancellation. Transparency mode is the feature that separates them from every other wireless earbud because it lets ambient sound through so naturally that I can have a conversation without removing them. Most days I use this more than noise cancellation. Samsung's Galaxy Buds cost less and have decent sound. Seamless pairing with my iPhone and automatic switching between devices when I move from my laptop to my phone is integration that only works within Apple's world. Spatial audio tracks your head movement during movies and it is genuinely disorienting the first time you try it because the sound stays fixed in space while your head turns, like sitting in a theater. Bought them because my wired EarPods broke and I needed something fast, not because I was convinced wireless was better. After 3 months I can't imagine going back to untangling a cord every morning. Case charges on any Qi pad and the battery gives about 6 hours of listening, which covers my longest study session with room to spare.
