A reading room in the Carnegie Library downtown still has the original brass desk lamps from when it opened. Ceilings are high enough that sound disappears upward, and the wooden tables have this worn patina that you can feel under your hands. People keep going back there even though everything is digital now, which says something about what a room can do that a screen can't.
