#28 of 357Fjallraven Kanken Backpack
Screenshot: a grid of Fjallraven Kanken backpacks in multiple colors displayed on a retail website, showing the classic rectangular shape and top handles.
Fjallraven's Kanken was designed in 1978 for Swedish schoolchildren and it still looks exactly the same, which gets my attention. Shape is a rectangle with handles on top and straps on the back, nothing curved, nothing padded, just a box you carry things in. Vinylon fabric is waterproof and wipes clean but it feels stiff at first, almost like canvas that hasn't been broken in yet. People carry these everywhere on campus now and it's interesting how a bag designed for 7 year olds in Scandinavia became something college students in the US treat as a style choice. About 40 color options help because everyone picks 1 that says something about them.
