#199 of 357Quip Electric Toothbrush
Personal photo: a matte slate Quip electric toothbrush mounted on a mirror with its suction cup holder, a small bathroom shelf with a cup and soap visible in the background.
Quip makes an electric toothbrush that costs $25, ships replacement heads every 3 months for $5, and looks like a product designed by people who think about how things sit on a bathroom counter. Slim, about the diameter of a manual brush, with a matte metal handle in copper, green, or slate. It mounts to a mirror or wall with a small suction cup that doubles as a travel cover. Vibration is gentle compared to Oral-B and Sonicare. The 2-minute timer with 30-second interval buzzes telling you to switch quadrants is the feature that actually improves my brushing. Without it, I tend to rush. The subscription model is the smart part. Dental professionals recommend replacing your brush head every 3 months, and almost nobody remembers. Automatic shipment solves a compliance problem other toothbrush brands have ignored. Battery is a AAA that Quip replaces with each head shipment rather than including a rechargeable one. That keeps weight down and eliminates the charging stand every other electric toothbrush requires. I bought one because it looked good and the price was low enough to try without commitment. I've stayed because the subscription removes a decision from my life that I never wanted to make in the first place.
