The Roland TR-808 is a mythical instrument. Manufactured for a brief period in the early 1980s, this drum machine is considered the holy grail of programmable instruments. It's legendary sound is heard on more hit records than any other drum machine, some, even, name whole albums after it such as Kanye West's "808s and Heartbreaks." Although once prized for their affordability, nowadays an 808 costs upwards of $1000.
