Carhartt WIP took the classic American workwear chore coat and cut it slimmer for a European market. The result is a jacket that signals manual labor without requiring any. The 12-ounce cotton canvas is stiff off the rack but softens after a few washes into something that holds its shape while draping loosely off the shoulders. Carhartt WIP charges $230 for a coat the original Carhartt sells for $60. The markup pays for a narrower silhouette and distribution in stores that also carry Acne and Stussy. Hamilton Brown is the color I want. It looks like it's already been worn in.
