#34 of 383HAY Kaleido Tray
Press shot: a set of HAY Kaleido trays in muted green, terracotta, and gray nested together on a light wooden surface, with keys, a small candle, and a pair of earrings sitting in the hexagonal compartments.
I saw the HAY Kaleido tray at a friend's apartment. It sat on their coffee table holding keys, a candle, and a couple of rings. The shape of it, a flat steel hexagon in muted green, made everything on it look deliberate. Powder-coated and smooth to the touch, the steel feels cool when you pick it up. The weight feels more expensive than the $25 price tag. HAY makes these in about 6 colors and 3 sizes. They nest together at angles, so you can build a cluster that looks like a geometric pattern on a table. I want one for my desk to hold pens and loose change. Right now those things just sit on the wood and look like clutter. A tray turns random objects into a collection by giving them a boundary. That's one of the simplest design moves a product can make.
