Personal photo: a pair of light beige linen trousers draped over the back of a wooden chair, showing the wide leg, high waist, and natural wrinkles in the fabric.

Linen trousers I found at a sample sale are unlined with a high waist and a wide leg that hits just above the ankle. The fabric wrinkles within 20 minutes of putting them on, which is either the best thing about linen or the worst depending on who you ask. The brand doesn't matter because these exist at every price point from $30 to $300. What I've found feels like it was cut by someone who understood that linen pants only look right when they are slightly too big. Wrinkles create a texture that changes throughout the day, crisp in the morning and soft and lived-in by evening, and I admire a fabric that tells time. Pocket lining is cotton rather than polyester, so the pockets don't stick to your legs in heat. I think linen is the most honest material in clothing because it cannot pretend to be anything other than what it is.
