The podcast app on my phone has a playlist feature that queues episodes based on what I have listened to before. It is strangely good at guessing that after a true crime episode I want something lighter like a comedy interview. The algorithm doesn't explain itself, which I appreciate because I don't need to see a "because you listened to" card every time I open the app. At 30 seconds, the skip-forward button hits the right interval for ads, and whoever set that default understood exactly how podcast ads work. My friends and I share episodes by sending links. The app handles that by adding a shared episode to a separate tab so it doesn't interrupt whatever I was already listening to. Passive and undemanding, it does its job without asking for much in return.
