The library renovation put Herman Miller Aeron chairs at every workstation. My study sessions immediately got longer, which is either a great endorsement or a warning about how uncomfortable the old chairs were. The mesh back lets air circulate so you don't get that sweaty-back feeling after 3 hours of reading. Lumbar support adjusts with a small dial that feels precise without being complicated. Plenty of office chairs claim to be ergonomic but just mean they have more levers to fiddle with. The Aeron actually delivers because adjustments correspond to real body positions. The tilt mechanism lets you lean back while keeping feet flat. The sounds minor but completely changes how it feels to take a thinking break without leaving your seat. At over $1,300 each, I understand why the university invested. Students choose seating that works and abandon spaces that don't, regardless of how nice the building looks. The design hasn't changed much since 1994. That longevity says more than any product review could. I choose this library over closer options specifically because of these chairs. Good furniture is a better investment than good signage, and I think the facilities team knows it. Seeing them still look professional after thousands of students have used them daily makes the case for spending more upfront on things that last. Every student who discovers these chairs has the same reaction: sitting down, going quiet for a second, and then not wanting to get up.
