Allbirds released the Tree Dasher running shoe. Upper is made from eucalyptus tree fiber, which sounds like marketing nonsense until you touch it. The mesh is softer and cooler than any synthetic knit I've tried. On a 4-mile run, my feet stayed dry even though it was humid. Midsole has a responsive bounce I wasn't expecting from a brand that started with wool loafers. Lacing system distributes pressure evenly across the top of my foot without creating hot spots. Sole tread is shallow, meant for roads rather than trails. Grip is fine on pavement but slippery on wet tile. Allbirds publishes the carbon footprint for each shoe right on the product page. Tree Dasher comes in at 7.6 kg CO2e, lower than most running shoes. At $125, they sit between budget running shoes and premium ones. Ride quality justifies the price for my weekly mileage.
