Spotify's Discover Weekly drops 30 songs into your library every Monday based on listening history, surfacing artists you have not heard who share characteristics with music you already play on repeat. A 3-minute song is a low-commitment sample, you know within 30 seconds whether it fits, and the quick feedback loop means you can scan all 30 in under an hour. This feature has introduced me to more new artists this year than any friend or publication, and the consistency of the Monday drop has become a commute ritual. Netflix and YouTube recommendation engines attempt the same thing but music's short format makes the Spotify version tighter. Sometimes the algorithm misfires, a country track because of 1 Johnny Cash listen, and those errors reveal the seams in ways that are more amusing than frustrating.
