Trader Joe's frozen aisle has become my primary meal strategy. Their meals taste better than anything else in the freezer section, and most cost under $4. Mandarin Orange Chicken has achieved a kind of cult status among students. The hype is justified because it tastes like takeout for a third of the price. Products rotate constantly. Items that don't sell get pulled and new ones appear every few weeks, so the selection always feels fresh even though you're literally shopping in the frozen section. Packaging runs smaller than competitors and fits in a mini-fridge freezer. That sounds trivial but it's the difference between a usable product and one that sits in the store because there is no room for it. Their Indian food options are better than most delivery places near campus. Having palak paneer ready in 4 minutes changes the calculation of whether cooking is worth the effort. Trader Joe's treats frozen food like a real meal category rather than an emergency backup, and that attitude shows in the ingredient lists and the flavor profiles they choose.
