#87 of 357Oura Ring Gen 3
Personal photo: a matte black ring resting on its small white disc charger on a nightstand next to a phone showing the Oura app readiness screen.
Oura Ring has been on my finger for about 6 weeks now and the thing I keep coming back to is how it manages to be a health tracker that I forget I am wearing. The opposite of every wrist-based device I've tried. Ring itself is titanium with a matte finish. Sensors sit against the underside of your finger where the skin is thin enough to get accurate pulse and temperature readings. It measures sleep stages, heart rate variability, body temperature trends, and activity. App is where it really pulls everything together into a daily readiness score that tells you whether to push hard or rest. Skeptical about the readiness score at first because it sounded like oversimplified wellness content, I started ignoring its suggestions and feeling terrible, so I started paying attention and my recovery days actually improved. Design language of the app is calm and muted, lots of gradients and soft curves, deliberately contrasting the aggressive dashboards that other fitness platforms use. Oura doesn't try to gamify your health with streaks or badges, and I like that restraint because it makes me trust the data more. Ring comes in a few finishes and I went with the stealth black because it looks like a normal ring, not a gadget. Only complaint is the $6 per month subscription for full data access after your first year. Charging for access to your own biometric data feels wrong even if the company needs recurring revenue to stay viable. Battery lasts about 5 days, the charger is a small puck that the ring sits on. Whole system feels like it was designed by people who actually wear the product daily. Checking the app first thing in the morning has become routine, not out of anxiety but genuine curiosity about how the night went. Temperature trend feature predicted I was getting sick about 36 hours before I felt any symptoms, and that alone justified the purchase for me.
