#45 of 357Anker USB-C Hub
Illustration: an Anker USB-C hub in silver aluminum connected to a MacBook Pro, showing multiple ports including USB-A, HDMI, and SD card reader on a desk surface.
The Anker USB-C hub solved the problem Apple created when MacBooks went down to a single port type. About the size of a deck of cards, it adds 4 USB-A ports, an HDMI output, an SD card reader, and a USB-C pass-through for charging. All from one connection. Anker built its reputation on Amazon reviews, an unusual distribution path for electronics. But it means the company responds to complaints fast because a 1-star rating is an existential threat. Aluminum casing matches the MacBook finish closely enough that the 2 devices look like they belong together. I keep mine in my backpack permanently. Plugging into a monitor at the library or a projector in a classroom requires HDMI, and without this hub the laptop is essentially a standalone device. The cable is short on purpose so the hub sits flush against the side of the computer rather than dangling.
