#222 of 357Calm App Sleep Stories
Personal photo: a phone on a nightstand showing the Calm app Sleep Stories menu, the room dimly lit, a pillow and blanket visible in the foreground.
Calm's meditation app has a section called Sleep Stories where soothing narrators read bedtime stories designed to put adults to sleep. Format works because the stories are intentionally boring in the best possible way, slow-paced, meandering, and narrated in a voice that drops progressively quieter toward the end. I use one about 3 nights a week and I rarely hear past the 10-minute mark of a 30-minute story. Suggests the pacing and tone are calibrated precisely for the transition from wakefulness to sleep. Narrators include celebrities and voice quality is high, recorded , and it feels close and intimate rather than broadcast.
