#212 of 315Theragun Mini Percussive Massager
Editorial photo of the Theragun Mini in black held against a runner's calf muscle, with the triangular grip visible, a pair of running shoes and a gym bag in the background.
I borrowed my teammate's Theragun Mini after a long run and now I understand why everyone in the athletic training room has one. About the size of a flashlight and weighing less than a pound, the device delivers enough percussive force to work through muscle tightness in a way foam rolling never did for me. Therabody made the motor surprisingly quiet for how much power it puts out. You can use it in a library or shared room without bothering anyone, which matters in a dorm. The triangular grip lets you hold it at different angles to reach shoulders, lower back, or calves without contorting your arm. Three speed settings, though I only use the first 2 because the third feels almost too intense on smaller muscle groups like forearms and shins. Battery lasts about 150 minutes of use, roughly 2 weeks of daily 10-minute sessions. It charges through USB-C, same cable as your phone. What I appreciate is that it makes recovery accessible outside a training facility. You don't need someone else to apply pressure or a large foam roller taking up half your dorm floor. My whole running group passes it around after weekend long runs. Everyone gets 5 minutes before we stretch. It's become a shared ritual. At $199, the Mini brought percussive therapy to a price point where college runners can justify the purchase as a practical investment in staying healthy through a full cross country and track season. Design is simple enough that there's nothing to figure out. Press the button and it goes. Interchangeable head attachments let you choose between a flat surface for large muscles and a pointed tip for specific knots. The company makes larger models with more attachments and higher amplitude, but the Mini does enough on its own. I used to spend $30 a session at the campus sports medicine clinic for basically the same treatment. Now I can do it myself whenever I need to.
