#208 of 315White Canvas Sneakers
Press shot of a pair of plain white canvas low-top sneakers against a light gray background, slightly worn with subtle scuff marks on the toe cap.
A good pair of white canvas sneakers is the one item everyone in my program seems to own regardless of personal style. They work with everything while saying almost nothing about you. Canvas gets better as it gets dirtier, because scuffs and creases make them look personal in a way that brand-new shoes don't. I noticed that people whose style I admire tend to wear shoes that look lived in rather than preserved. White canvas sneakers are the fastest way to get there. Nobody asks what brand they are, and that anonymity is a specific kind of confidence. Flat rubber soles keep them low-profile, and the lack of logos lets the shape do all the work.
