I fly home twice a semester and the QuietComfort headphones have changed the experience from endurance to something close to pleasant. Sound quality is good but not exceptional by audiophile standards, and Bose has always prioritized warmth and bass over analytical accuracy. For music listening at home, a pair of open-back headphones from Sennheiser or Beyerdynamic would sound better. Those headphones don't cancel noise and they aren't designed for travel. The QuietComfort line exists at the intersection of comfort, portability. Noise cancellation, and no competitor has displaced Bose from that position in 30 years suggests the company understood the use case better than anyone. At $329 the price feels justified by the durability and the 24-hour battery life, which is long enough for any flight including delays.
