#159 of 315Discord Server Communities
Personal photo: A Discord server sidebar showing a list of organized text channels with topic-specific names, voice channels with user avatars, and the server name and icon at the top.
Discord started as a voice chat app for gamers and has become the default communication platform for communities that outgrew Facebook groups and Reddit threads. Study groups, music production collectives, plant identification enthusiasts. The channel structure lets a server organizer create separate text and voice rooms for different topics. The permission system controls who can post, moderate, and access each channel. I'm in 4 servers, and the one I check most often is a design critique group where members post work-in-progress projects and get feedback within hours.
