Starbucks mobile app featuring material design aesthetics, heavy drink customization, integrated map for finding locations, and Google Assistant voice ordering.

The least talked about part of Starbucks is probably its app, but I think the app is one of the best designed retail/restaurant apps out there. Part of this is aesthetic: it follows Google’s material guidelines incredibly well, even to the point of motion, which often gets ignored when developers implement material. But features wise, it’s an effective translation of the physical Starbucks experience into the real world. It offers heavy customization, visuals, and an integrated map to find locations along your route. Its even integrated with Google Assistant, allowing it to better approximate a real barista experience.
