WIG: A Handle on Mugs

After taking several ceramics classes, I’m starting to notice aspects of store-bought dish ware. Everything from the type of foot (the bottom part of any ceramics piece, usually with the center material removed to reduce weight and increase stability) to the shape of the body (vases), to the comfort and functionality of handles (mugs) inspires my own work. Turns out the handles on the last two mugs I made protruded a bit too far — so that without a firm grip, the mug would sag diagonally and (if full) spill its contents. For my most recent mug, then, I made sure that the handle curved upward more than outward, making it both comfortable and practical to hold. It’s a keeper!
