The Rowing Blazer has a long history dating back to the 1800s when Oxford and Cambridge’s crews wore them whilst rowing, using unique colors to identify the crews in the race. Harvard has an equally long history of rowing, and the accompanying fashion, originally using Crimson colored handkerchiefs, the first instance of Crimson being used to represent Harvard, in a rowing race in 1858.
The long history of the blazer, the fact that it is tailored in Harvard Square where it has been for generations of oarsmen, and since it is only given to athletes who qualify to race at the Henley Royal Regatta, makes the Harvard Rowing Blazer the prized possession of anyone lucky enough to own one.
