The newly renovated SFMOMA opened in May of 2016, and is a much improved version of the former SFMOMA. Designed by architect Craig Dykers, who also designed the 9/11 memorial and Times Square reconstruction in New York, the SFMOMA’s exterior is meant to evoke the rippling waters and rolling fog of the San Francisco Bay Area. The building is built using sustainable materials, and in a way to let the maximum amount of light possible into the building. The exhibitions are also thoughtfully crafted in a way to curate a scaffolded and accessible experience for those unfamiliar and intimidated by modern art, while leaving a lot to explore for those more experienced. As a lover of art museums but not the biggest fan of contemporary art, I can say that the SFMOMA is one of my favorite contemporary art museums due to its beautiful physical design and effectively curated exhibits.
