IKEA's click and collect system finally makes the store usable for people who know exactly what they want and do not need to wander through 2 hours of showroom to get it. You order online, select a pickup window, and drive to a dedicated loading area where someone wheels out your boxes on a flatbed cart. App tells you when the order is ready and the pickup takes under 10 minutes if you arrive during your window. I used it for a desk and 2 shelving units last month and the total time from parking to driving away was 8 minutes, about 2 hours less than my last in-store IKEA trip. Design of the pickup experience is smart because it preserves the warehouse feel without the maze. Loading area is inside the building but separate from the retail floor. Staff have a scanner system that locates your items by bin number so they are not searching the aisles. Pricing is identical to in-store, which removes the decision friction of wondering if you are paying a convenience premium. For large items that don't fit in a car, IKEA offers delivery from the same system for $49. Delivery window is tighter than most furniture retailers at 4 hours instead of an all-day range. Limitation is that stock availability online doesn't always match the physical warehouse. I have had orders delayed by a day because an item showed available but was not actually on the shelf.
