Dyson Purifier Hot+Cool is a space heater, fan. Air purifier combined into a single tower that looks like a bladeless portal. After using it through winter I think the air quality data alone justifies the price even though $549 is a lot for what most people would call a fan. HEPA filter captures particles down to 0.3 microns, and the LCD screen on the front shows real-time readings for PM2.5, PM10, VOCs, and nitrogen dioxide. You can see the air quality change when you open a window or cook on the stove. Purifier mode runs automatically when the sensor detects a spike. Heating mode can warm a small room in about 15 minutes without the dry heat feel of a traditional space heater. Design is Dyson's usual approach of making the engineering visible. Amplified airflow exits through a narrow slot in the loop, and the bladeless form means there are no exposed moving parts to collect dust or risk injury. App tracks daily and weekly air quality trends. I was surprised to learn that my apartment's air quality drops noticeably every time my neighbor in the unit next door cooks, presumably through the shared ventilation. Filter replacement costs $79.99 and lasts about 12 months, so the annual operating cost is real. However, compared to buying a separate heater, a separate fan. Separate air purifier, the combined unit takes up less space and the integration means I actually use all 3 functions instead of leaving a standalone purifier in a closet. Night mode dims the display and drops the fan to near-silent speed, which works well enough that I run it while sleeping without noticing.
