Wayfinding signs installed across campus last year are the kind of design most people walk past without thinking about. But they solve a problem that used to waste my time every week during freshman year. Each sign is a simple post with directional arrows, building names, and walking time estimates in minutes, placed at every major intersection and pathway split. Clean typography puts building names largest with department names smaller underneath. Readable from about 20 feet away without stopping. Including estimated walking times instead of distances was smart because nobody on a college campus thinks in meters. Colors use the university's system but in a muted palette that blends with landscape rather than looking like advertising. Small maps at the 4 main campus entry points show full layout with a "you are here" dot. Before these went up, new students and visitors constantly stopped people for directions. That happens much less now. Consistency matters too. Every sign follows the same format, so once you learn to read one, you can read all of them.
