Personal photo: oversized charcoal tweed scarf draped over the back of a wooden lecture hall chair, showing the rust and olive flecked pattern and fringe edges.

The oversized wool scarf I wear every day in February is wide enough to wrap twice around my neck and drape over one shoulder. Heavy enough to notice but not heavy enough to bother me, it acts like a portable blanket between buildings during 10-minute walks that are the coldest part of my day. Hand-loomed in a tweed pattern with flecks of rust and olive through a charcoal base, I found it in a bin at the campus thrift swap for $5. Rough against cool skin, the fabric softens once it warms up. During cold lectures I've caught myself pressing my face into it, using it as both clothing and comfort object. Oversized scarves work as a wardrobe piece because they're forgiving. They fit every body type, layer over anything from a t-shirt to a parka, and the styling requires zero effort. Just wrap and go.
