#21 of 383Salomon XT-6 Trail Shoe
Press shot: a pair of Salomon XT-6 trail shoes in black and silver, photographed from a three-quarter angle showing the mesh upper, Quicklace toggle, heel counter, and Contagrip outsole tread.
Salomon's XT-6 was originally a trail running shoe built for ultra-marathon runners and it has become one of the most visible sneakers in fashion over the last 2 years. Showing up on city sidewalks in colorways that have nothing to do with trail running. Its silhouette is aggressive with a mesh upper, a pronounced heel counter, and a Contagrip sole designed for loose rock and mud. Salomon did not market the shoe to fashion — the fashion community found it through runners and outdoor athletes. That organic adoption path gave it a credibility that a brand collaboration never could. At $175, the construction holds up to daily wear in a way that fashion sneakers from the same price range don't. I like that the shoe looks fast standing still. The Quicklace system that replaces traditional lacing with a single-pull toggle and a lace garage is a functional detail that also looks cleaner than a bow. The shoe works because it doesn't compromise its performance heritage to appeal to a casual audience, and I think that authenticity is exactly why the casual audience showed up.
