Burt's Bees beeswax lip balm in the yellow tube has been in my coat pocket since October and the peppermint tingle when I put it on. That slight cool burn that fades into a waxy smoothness, is the closest thing I've to a sensory ritual during the winter months when my lips crack from the cold air in every heated building on campus. Texture is denser than Vaseline and less slippery than ChapStick, sitting on the lip like a protective layer that you can feel for about an hour before it absorbs. Beeswax smell is subtle and clean, like honey without the sweetness. Burt's Bees has been making this formula since the 1980s. The packaging and the product have barely changed tells me they figured out the right answer early and had the discipline not to mess with it. Tube cap clicks on with a satisfying snap and the twist mechanism is smooth enough that I can apply it 1-handed without looking. That matters when I am walking between classes in 20-degree wind. I like that the ingredient list is short and the price is under $4. In a category full of $25 lip products claiming to do more, this one does exactly one thing and does it well.
