Press shot: a yellow Kodak FunSaver disposable camera on a wooden table, showing the flash, the exposure counter window, and the winding wheel on top.

Disposable cameras have reappeared at parties, weddings, and college events. The 27-exposure limit and the inability to preview or delete photos forces a spontaneity that phone cameras lost when storage became infinite. Keeping one in my bag appeals to me because the constraint of not knowing how the photos turned out adds an anticipation that makes each frame feel like it counted. Cameras cost about $15 and developing runs $12 to $18. Total investment creates a set of photos with a grain and color palette no filter replicates convincingly.
