#135 of 383Cold Shower Habit
Personal photo: a shower handle turned to the cold position with water running, droplets visible on the chrome fixture, and a foggy glass shower door in the background.
I started ending every shower with 60 seconds of cold water after reading about the practice in a few places. That physical sensation of the switch from warm to cold is jarring enough that it functions as a reset between whatever I was thinking about before the shower and whatever I need to focus on next. Claimed health benefits range from improved circulation to reduced inflammation, and I don't know which of those are real. Mental clarity in the first 5 minutes after a cold finish is noticeable enough that I've kept the habit for 4 months. It costs nothing and requires no equipment. The simplicity of it is probably the reason it has persisted when other wellness habits I have tried, meditation apps, journaling prompts, did not last a week.
