#107 of 383Transit App Real-Time Map
Press shot: a smartphone displaying a transit app with a real-time map showing colored route lines, moving bus dots, and arrival time predictions overlaid on a city street grid.
A real-time transit map in my city's bus app shows every bus as a moving dot on the street grid. Knowing exactly where the bus is and how many minutes until arrival turns waiting from anxious to manageable. The app pulls GPS data from each vehicle and updates every 15 seconds. Accuracy means I can leave my apartment at the right moment instead of standing at the stop for 12 minutes in the cold. Route lines are color-coded the same way the physical signs at stops are. That consistency between digital and physical wayfinding is a small detail that makes the whole system feel coherent. I like that the app added a crowding indicator last year showing whether the bus is empty, moderate, or full. Information changes my decision about whether to wait for the next 1. A trip planner suggests routes I wouldn't have found on my own, connecting 2 buses I didn't know overlapped.
