Personal photo: A stainless steel public water fountain in a park with 3 tiers of water spouts at different heights, a dog drinking from the lowest bowl, and a gravel drainage bed around the base.

New water fountains in the park have 3 tiers: a high arc for standing adults, a lower arc for children. A ground-level bowl for dogs, all fed by a single pedal that activates all 3 streams at once. Stainless steel with a smooth, rounded base, the design collects overflow and drains into a gravel bed. Placed at the intersection of the walking path and the dog run, the fountain sits where the highest concentration of thirsty people and animals occurs. Every time I run through the park I stop at it, and the water is cold and clean. Drinking without a bottle or a purchase feels like a gift from the city. At the top, a bottle-filler spout dispenses water directly into a reusable bottle, and the flow rate is calibrated to fill a 16-ounce bottle in about 8 seconds.
