Personal photo: A thin circular charging pad on a wooden nightstand next to a lamp and a book, with a phone resting on it and a small LED light visible at the edge indicating active charging.

On my nightstand I want a wireless charging pad because plugging in a cable in the dark is a small annoyance that happens every single night. Dropping my phone onto a flat surface would be so much simpler, a straightforward upgrade that makes you wonder why you waited. Pads I've looked at are thin enough to disappear under a book or a small plant. Better ones charge through a phone case so you don't have to strip the case off first. Charging speed is slower than wired, about 10 watts versus 20 for a cable, but overnight that difference does not matter because 8 hours is more than enough time. Coil alignment is the real issue though: if you set the phone down slightly off-center it doesn't charge at all, and you wake up to 15% battery instead of 100%, which defeats the entire purpose. Multi-coil pads handle this better, and ones that show a small LED indicator when charging is active give you the confirmation you need before falling asleep. Cable clutter on my nightstand dropping to 0 is the goal. Setting my phone down on a smooth surface rather than fumbling with a connector feels like the right direction for bedside design.
