#337 of 363Modular Bookshelf System
Press shot: a set of stackable wooden cube shelves arranged in an asymmetrical pattern against a white wall, filled with books, small plants, and a few framed photos.
The modular bookshelf in my friend's apartment is made of stacking wooden cubes with no hardware, and you build whatever shape you need by just adding more cubes. When she moves apartments the shelf becomes a pile of identical boxes that pack flat and reconfigure to fit the new space. Each cube holds about 15 paperbacks or 8 hardcovers and the wood is solid enough that nothing wobbles even when stacked 5 high. I admire the constraint of a single repeated unit doing all the work, because most furniture tries to be unique and this one finds its character through arrangement. System costs less than a real bookcase and looks better than most particle board shelving. Built for people who are going to move 4 times before they settle down — and it shows.
