Personal photo: a faded medium-wash denim trucker jacket hanging on the back of a wooden chair, soft overhead lighting.

I found this Levi's trucker jacket at a Goodwill in Cambridge for $18, and it fits better than anything I've bought new this semester. The denim is already broken in, soft at the collar and cuffs where someone else wore it for years before it ended up on a rack between a Hawaiian shirt and a pleather blazer. I don't usually shop secondhand for outerwear, but a friend told me to start checking the jacket section first because that's where the good stuff hides. She was right. The color is that faded medium wash that looks intentional now even though it probably wasn't when the original owner bought it. I wear it over hoodies, over button-downs, even over a dress shirt for a presentation last week. Nobody said anything, which I think means it worked. Fashion that already has a life before you get to it feels different from fashion you break in yourself.
