Rotating desk caddies at art supply stores have a form so directly connected to function that you wonder why every desk organizer doesn't spin. The base rotates 360 degrees on a bearing, so you can reach pens, scissors, tape, and markers without standing up or reaching across a cluttered surface. Each compartment is a slightly different size, which means you naturally sort things by type without thinking about organization as a separate task. Usually hexagonal or octagonal, the shape holds items at a tilt so you can see what's in each section at a glance. I saw one in the architecture studio and immediately understood why everyone at those drafting tables had one. It turns a desk into a workstation by putting every tool within arm's reach and visible. That changes how quickly you switch between tasks. Most desk organizers are static containers with dividers that you have to remember the contents of. This one lets you browse your own supplies like a lazy Susan.
