Allbirds made shoes out of wool and somehow convinced everyone that paying $110 for sneakers made from sheep is a reasonable idea. Weird thing is they actually feel different from anything else I've tried. Material breathes better than synthetic mesh and they are noticeably lighter than my regular sneakers, which matters when you are walking across campus 4 times a day. Sustainability story is a nice bonus, however I am being honest when I say I bought them because they are comfortable, not because of the carbon footprint label on the box. Absence of visible branding appeals to a certain type of person who wants nice things but doesn't want to look like a walking advertisement. Skeptical about the hype at first, after wearing them for 3 weeks straight I understand why people own multiple pairs, even if the color options are limited to variations of gray and beige. Rain performance is a real drawback, but for dry days they are the first shoes I reach for.
