#309 of 420Library Self-Checkout Kiosk
Illustration: a public library self-checkout kiosk showing a touchscreen display, a stack of books on the RFID reader pad, and a library card resting beside the screen.
Self-checkout kiosk at the public library lets you stack up to 10 books on the RFID reader pad and check them all out in about 15 seconds without waiting in line. Speed has changed how I use the library because I stop by for a single book instead of saving trips for when I've a list. Reader detects each book through the cover without needing to find a barcode, and the screen displays titles and due dates as confirmation. Machine handles returns and renewals from the same interface, so the entire visit can happen without approaching the desk. Touchscreen is plain, large text on a white background with a blue progress bar, and simplicity of the design is what makes it fast. I like that the kiosk prints a receipt I fold into whatever book I am reading as a bookmark.
