Illustration: a Veja V-10 sneaker in white leather with the signature V panel in olive suede, shown from the side on a neutral background, the clean silhouette and rubber sole visible.
Veja is a French sneaker brand that sources its rubber from wild rubber trees in the Amazon and its organic cotton from farming cooperatives in Brazil. Supply chain transparency is the foundation of a brand that has become the default ethical sneaker in European fashion circles. V-10 model has a clean low-top silhouette with a large V on the side panel that functions as both structural reinforcement and brand identifier. Leather version develops a patina with wear that gives the shoe character over time rather than just looking worn out. I want a pair because the proportions are slim enough to work with tailored pants and casual enough for jeans. Earth-toned color options, olive, rust, cream, signal a restraint that most sneaker brands lack. Pricing at $150 to $180 is higher than fast-fashion competitors but lower than luxury brands, and the ethical sourcing adds value that the shoe's appearance alone does not communicate. Brand doesn't spend money on traditional advertising, relying instead on word of mouth and celebrity sightings. Marketing absence is itself a positioning strategy because it implies the product should speak for itself. I like that Veja published a book detailing their supply chain from tree to shelf. The level of documentation gives the sustainability claims a credibility that a label on the box can't provide.
