Brooklinen makes linen sheets that feel rough when you first put them on the bed. Over 5 or 6 washes, they soften into a texture that's cool in summer and warm in winter. Nobody warns you about the break-in period. Initial stiffness makes you wonder if you wasted $250. A visible weave gives the bed a casual, rumpled look even when you make it carefully. Imperfection is part of the aesthetic. Linen isn't supposed to look pressed and smooth the way cotton percale does. I have mixed feelings. Price is high for bedding and the first few nights feel like sleeping on canvas. But after the softening happens, the sheets become the most comfortable fabric I own. Color options are muted: cream, slate, a few earth tones. The palette matches a bedroom designed for rest rather than decoration. My roommate ordered the same set after sleeping in my bed once. Endorsement through direct experience seems to be how most people discover the brand.
