#143 of 420Reversible Quilted Jacket
Press shot: a reversible quilted jacket displayed on a hanger showing both sides, one in olive green nylon with diamond quilting, the other in burnt orange cotton, with the jacket partially folded to reveal both exteriors.
The reversible quilted jacket is a garment construction trick that solves the problem of needing 2 different outerwear options by sewing 2 finished exteriors together with the seams hidden inside. The diamond stitching pattern holds the insulation in place while creating a visual texture that reads differently depending on which fabric is facing out. Good ones give you a solid color on one side and a pattern or contrasting shade on the other. I found 1 at a vintage shop where the outside is olive nylon and the reverse is a burnt orange cotton. Flipping it changes the whole feel of an outfit without packing a second layer. The construction requires more precision than a standard jacket because every seam, pocket. Closure has to work from both directions, and you can tell the quality of a reversible piece by how cleanly the snap placket lies when you flip it inside out. The weight stays the same either way, so it functions as a consistent mid-layer regardless of which side is showing. Every seam on a quality reversible piece has to work from both sides, and the snaps lie flat whether worn inside out or not.
