#110 of 420Magnetic Knife Strip
Personal photo: A wooden magnetic knife strip mounted on a white kitchen wall, holding 5 assorted kitchen knives in a neat row, with a tiled backsplash visible below.
Someone in our shared kitchen mounted a magnetic knife strip on the wall and it freed up an entire drawer that we now use for utensils. Small spatial decision, but it changes how a room works. Knives hang in a visible row and you can grab the one you need without opening anything or reaching into a block where the blades are hidden. Clever because the solution is so obvious once you see it, magnets holding metal to a wall, but nobody in our apartment thought of it until this semester. Strip cost $15 and took 10 minutes to install, but the daily convenience has been disproportionate to the effort. Keeping blades exposed so they dry faster after washing also prevents the rust problem we had with the old knife block. Visible display made everyone more careful about putting knives away clean, because a dirty blade on the wall is harder to ignore than 1 hidden in a drawer.
