Personal photo: a large tub of CeraVe Moisturizing Cream with its blue and white label on a bathroom counter, with the lid off showing the thick white cream inside.

CeraVe in the tub is the moisturizer that dermatologists won't stop recommending and it feels like spreading cold butter on your skin. Thick and rich and it takes a minute to absorb but once it does the dryness is gone for the whole day. Ceramides in the formula supposedly repair the skin barrier, which I learned about from my dermatologist after my hands cracked every winter. At 19 ounces for $16, the value is comically obvious compared to the $45 moisturizers at Sephora that do the same thing in smaller containers. Blue and white packaging looks clinical, like something from a hospital pharmacy, and that plainness is why people trust it. Everyone in my family uses it now because I left a jar at my parents' house and it spread like a recommendation virus.
